Civil Infrastructure
Are you ready for the the infrastructure of the future? Already aware of ARPA-I? Infrastructure will change. The extreme costs of maintenance and repair cannot be sustained. The model with 1% margins for contractors cannot be sustained. InfraLytics is the tool for:
- Governements and authorities to reduce infrastructure costs and extend operational life
- Contractors to step into a recurring revenue model and avoid becoming a player from the past.
InfraLytics is the optimal solution to:
- Reduce risks and total-lifecycle cost for government, authorities and private investors
- Reduce carbon footprint and increases sustainability as operational life of assets is prolonged
- Bring long-term recurring revenues to contractors
Cut Total Lifecycle Costs by at least 20%
Infrastructure as a Service is coming
You'd better be well equipped!
As the construction world suffers from low margins, the world of 'Smart Cities' emerges. The end result will be smart infrastructure, that will be made available to its users or authorities through a subscription model: Infrastructure as a Service. This model will increase financial resilience, but needs a dedicated tool for close follow-up and monitoring of how the assets are doing and where to intervene to avoid standstill. The end result is an infrastructure that is continuously in an optimal shape, with minimal maintenance costs and a maximal operational life: ultimate sustainability.
Availability is key
When operating in a recurring income model, availability is key. Major repair works are a nightmare for owners and users. These are avoided by acting exactly when necessary: at the moment where the degradation is still in an early stage. In a DBFM or PPP scheme a reduced availability directly hits the bottom-line. This is avoided using a dedicated monitoring platform that provides learning based on historical data to generate predictions on the asset health. Replace expensive and lengthy inspections & maintenance jobs by targeted and short data driven inspections and repairs.Know the actual remaining lifetime and asset value
Infrastructure is built to serve the community for a long time. Traffic loads and usage types however evolve continuously: supertrucks, autonomous cars, climate change... As such predictions on actual operational life become increasingly challenging. Assessments on remaining lifetime and maintenance needs have to be based on true loads and usage, not on assumptions from the design phase. This is a prerequisite for proper lifetime extension or when designing and executing of necessary repair or reinforcement jobs. The integrated approach ultimately determines the capital value of the asset. You'd better do this continuously and with the smallest possible degree of uncertainty: through monitoring.Create a true Digital Twin
Structural and Finite Element models are essential tools to design structures and predict their operational performance. Actual behaviour however always deviates due to imperfect knowledge of surrounding conditions and inhomogeneities in materials and joints. A Digital Twin is the ideal tool to track the structure over its entire lifecycle. Sensor-based continuous follow-up allows the owner to match the Twin’s behaviour with what is actually happening. Combining physics and data science allows operators to engage in profound asset criticality analysis.Perform maintenance...in time
A visible crack in the concrete surface may be an indication that things are not going as planned. Most often it is not enough to just cover it up. Cracks in concrete originate from internal disintegration, corrosion or (external) stresses. Based on multi-aspect monitoring, dedicated sensors and the appropriate correlation analysis you can solve the root cause rather than treat the symptoms. Recent incidents such as the one Genoa, Italy (Morandi bridge) can be perfectly avoided if a proper continuous follow-up is implementedOur Experiences
Recent project:Evergem Lock doors
Gent
Lockdoors are made up of numerous moving parts that all support one another during daily operation. The purpose of the monitoring setup is to help the client understand what components require maintenance before damage occurs.
Blog post:What's in a name?: ''Infrastructure Analytics''
Infrastructure Analytics is the term we use at Zensor to refer to the products we provide for the monitoring of Civil Infrastructure. This could be bridges, tunnels, lock doors...
Blog post:Insights from the Digital Twin Conference
Last week we were excited to join the Digital Twin conference, organised by the lovely folks of Xenomatix, our partner in infrastructure monitoring & asset management.
With speakers from both industry & public sector, the conference provided eye-opening examples of how digital twins can help us to manage our public infrastructure...
Case study:PlasticRoad
The Netherlands & Mexico
There are now multiple PlasticRoads around the world and we're proud to be helping monitor the structural integrity and long-term degradation.
Blog post:Zensor and XenomatiX expand their ecosystem in the infrastructure market
Safety and durability are cornerstones in Zensor’s and XenomatiX’s strategic development and are key in the decision criteria to set up partnerships in their ecosystem. Today both companies announce their collaboration on safety and durability...
Blog post:Zensor Experience at Bauma 2022
The last week of October 2022 the most recent edition of Bauma took place. For Zensor this was an event with a double goal. The main one was the official launch of the SmartSheetPile together with ArcelorMittal, a second one was related to discovering new developments in a number of industries we’re active in...

Monitoring your construction site will bring a peace of mind to all involved, so it really is a no-brainer. Find out more and enjoy the free download.
Blog post:Sustainable Management Of Concrete Structures
In the context of sustainable management (maintenance and repair) of concrete structures, monitoring is an important tool. A wide variety of innovative monitoring techniques make it possible to monitor, often remotely, the (damaged) condition of structures...
Blog post:Day at the Workshop
Our workshop is a magic place, specially for our hardware team. There is where they make sure that all the sensors integrated in different components are working correctly before “installation day”.
However, sometimes unexpected events take place that force us to adapt our plans…
Blog post:Infrastructure Monitoring In A Nutshell
Most of our public infrastructure isn’t a cheerful sight these days. At both sides of the Atlantic, civilians suffer from delays, outages, minimal comfort... because the critical infrastructure they rely on daily is in such an appalling state...
